TRACEY EMIN – THE LAST GREAT ADVENTURE IS YOU
WHITE CUBE – Bermondsey
You’ve got until the 16th Nov which means only three weekends until show closes!
There aren’t many galleries that I feel content and comfortable in but White Cube always makes me feel welcome and relaxed. The reflective concrete flooring sits perfectly with the pure white lighting above. There is a consistency throughout the building that doesn’t take much thought but instead all concentration can be directed to the work that is shown.
Tracey explores many different techniques in this exhibition and even learnt to sculpt which she explains in a short video clip she is extremely proud of, the kneading of both hands still linger embedded onto each bronze sculpture. Her more recognised work consists of her naked drawings and neon lights which are still a large part of this exhibition but the approach this time is very different.
Tracey re-explores herself again and documents how she feels to be placed in a different chapter of her life. Her physical being has changed as well as her choices and responsibilities. Her technique to document this change also appears wiser, more sophisticated and intellectual.
I know Emin isn’t an artist for everyone but I feel that this exhibition will make you want to look at yourself afresh, to digest your age, face the facts of growing older and wonder where it is our lives are going and where it is that we have come from.
These thoughts seem quite simple but are hugely important to growing, accepting and moving forward. To know what it is we want or looking for plays on everyone’s minds but it’s how we approach these questions that are a true testament to developing ourselves as individuals.
If you head to the Village East restaurant also located on Bermondsey Street you can treat yourself to one of these gorgeous bespoke cocktails! @VillageEastSE1
Now that is a perfect London day in my eyes!
