HI LOVERS
I recently read Alexa Chung’s book IT. It only took me a day to read so it wasn’t hugely in-depth but it was a book I’ve been meaning to get my hands on for a while and I must say I really did enjoy every page Chung had to offer.
I loved her notebook/ journal approach. Alexa advises the masses of her daily wardrobe & beauty routines as well as giving an insight to her celebrity lifestyle.
But…
There are a few things that Alexa touches on that I’d like to explore more deeply. Our lives and habits are entwined with creature comforts, nostalgic memories and mental security blankets to help see us through the years. We are all the same. We hold memories with particular items, pieces of clothing or particular scents. For me scent and nostalgia are my favourite senses. They are incredibly powerful and can flood you with wonderfully beautiful memories or devastatingly painful emotions.
Visually and sensually nostalgia can spark a reaction that can bind one speechless. When you think about spring-time cut grass, blown out Birthday candles, the smell of your Nan’s hand cream, the way your boyfriend’s thread bare jumper smelt or the brand of hair-wax he used to use positivity and familiarity courses through you but if you are caught out with that hospital smell you’d tried to forget or the shot you associate that terrible night with, the perfume you wore when he broke your heart, whatever it is Nostalgia will hit you like a freight train knowingly, taking the memory from the depths of your past and dragging them up into the forefront of your mind.
They are strong emotions to play with but however they make me feel I invite them openly and look to learn from them.
ENJOY
